The say absence makes the heart grow fonder…well, having 10 days of holiday certainly made me pine to be back home working!
Yet, just when you think you’ve hit a home straight, you get thrown a couple of chicanes to reduce your speed!
(Mina having school “inset” days this week – i.e. days off at home with daddy – being one of them – we didn’t plan our holiday timing very well!)
So my great plans to hurtle back into work this week have been frustratingly hampered by that wonderful entity of “day to day life”.
(I keep repeating to myself Stephen King’s words; “Life isn’t a support system for art. It’s the other way around.” Repeat, “Life isn’t a support system for art..” Repeat, “Life isn’t…”…)
So between these spluttering, caught-in-traffic fits of work, my progress has been rather slow.
I have, however, managed to get the backing track for my July Members’ song finished (except for the inevitable guitar solo…) and have uploaded a short snippet of the verse and bridge for you to hear (it’s without vocals):
And the reason there are no vocals…I’ve not written the lyrics yet!
Actually, that’s not strictly true; yesterday I did write some lyrics, which have been heavily coloured by this week’s monumental Brexit decision, here in the UK; here’s a little snippet of the second verse:
Now I have become aware of the danger we face
It’s the fear that our media sells to us each day
Listen to me; the news is a poison that you consume
Don’t let it erode the greater sense you’ve got in you
Pretty strong; not a lot of gray area!
I’ll sit on them a couple of days then have another read over. I’m not sure if I’ll keep them as they are, amend them a little, or scrap them completely, but either way, it was good to rant!
Regardless of what I chose, one way or another, this song – currently titled “You’ve Had a Devil In Your Ear Too Long” – will be available in my Members Area from July 1st.
(until then my music video “For the Weekend” will still be exclusively available in the Members Area, as my June Members Song – so if you’re thinking of becoming a Member, doing so before the end of June would be good timing!)
What do you think? Should I scrap this lyrical direction or plough on with it? What about the song title? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
