Is there more to you than just the work that colleagues know you for?
Do you talk about different things depending on which group of people you're with?
We all wear multiple different hats, present multiple facets of our personalities.
But they are all part of the same person!
Wouldn't it be nice to present the total sum of yourself, without having to filter out whole swathes of your interests and experiences because they are not "relevant" to the audience your speaking to?!
I've been thinking about this a bit recently.
To some people, I'm known for the music I do. Others, it's the photography. A whole other group knows me for events I organise and host. A different group again knows me from my travelling, blogging and education ideas. Others as a martial artist, filmmaker or writer. Some for my marketing and sales consulting.
And, my nearest and dearest know me simply as "dad"!
Just like you, I'm more than just one "thing".
Just like you, I'm a person with multiple interests and experiences.
It makes it really hard when people ask me the deceptively simple question: "What do you do?"
The truth is, the answer to that changes, and not just day by day, but during different hours of the day!
So I thought I'd answer it in a different way, as much for myself as anyone else interested.
I thought I'd start a podcast.
So, yesterday, I recorded and uploaded my first episode, which you can listen to below, or by heading to the Podcasts section of my website.
In order not to over-complicate it (which generally leads to procrastination and stagnation) I wanted it as simple as possible.
So it's recorded and shared directly via an app in my phone.
I also wanted it to be short because, well, who's got time to listen to some random dude bleat on for hours on end?!
This first episode is just over 7 mins long.
Also, I wanted it to have no boundaries; it can be really confusing, as an indiependent creator, to know where I should post certain things, on which platforms and under which brands.
I wanted this to be different, to be simple. I wanted to be able to talk about any "facets" of my life without worrying that I might be going "off topic".
Finally, I wanted it to be a place where I could speak to, and with, other people; principally you!
To that end, if you have any questions you want me to answer in future episodes, about anything, please do leave them in the comments below, or send me a message using the chat icon in the bottom right of this website, and I'll do my best to answer them!
Who knows where this will lead? I certainly don't! And that's what's really refreshing about this; I don't have a plan, I don't have a blueprint, I don't have any equipment to run it through or any editing to do.
It's just simply me, in the rawest form; I hope you find it interesting!
